Questions for both the DTN Prez as well as the LEO Prez.
« on: February 08, 2008, 03:19:29 AM »
Howdy fellas.  First off let me start by saying thank you for answering questions on this forum.  I'm glad that my first questions to MIke got others to come on here and ask questions as well.  Now, I'm not gonna ask ya about the golf stuff or the credit card issue.  I'm not gonna ask ya about the stipend or the open positions on the board.  Those horses are dead and have been whipped like an old goverment mule in my opinion.  That said, my questions are this.

Neither one of you have a full time release from the office in order to conduct PBA business.  How much time do you both spend doing your actual patrol and jail assignments?  We all know that the office is short everywhere as far as personnel go.  It does'nt matter if ya work the street or the jail warm bodies are hard to find to fill zones and pods sometimes.  How do you think your extended time away from your assigned duties in the office as a deputy and a corporal effect your zones partners and squad members to which you are assigned?  Do you think that the deputies which bid for your respective squads said oh "hell ya" or oh "hell naw" when they seen you had bid for their squad?  If the union stays and you do not get a full time release for PBA business how much will you actually be avialable to work with your squads?

Thanks for your anticipated reply.

Blog,

I am the most senior Detention Cpl. in the Detention Department which means I bid number one. My squad more times than not fill up first, therefore I have the most senior squad. I also make sure that I bid to an area that has more than one supervisor. This allows me to be able to take time off PBA as well as Vacation time with less of an impact on the squad and the Department. I try to schedule as many PBA functions as I can on my days off.  I would have to say that my HCSO works days are 70/30, I think I spend about 70% doing HCSO work on HCSO days. Taking off from my HCSO duty days about 30% at the most. My squad fills up fast so most, I would say want to be where they are. The Detention side is not asking for full time release.

while I don't always agree with you Corporal, I do respect the way you answer members questions in a straight forward honest way. I don't get the feeling from you that you are trying to justify everything and make excuses for what you do. You just simply answer plainly and honestly.

I try,

Thank you

I have 50% release for PBA time with the current contract.  I am sure my squad would like someone there full time but I have talked to them about this and they understand the situation and they are supportive.  I do not know what will happen with future contracts.  The Sheriff’s office wants to do away with the PBA time bank.  They want complete control over what is done on PBA time.
