Communication
« on: December 22, 2007, 01:36:36 AM »
Looking at my first draft of this, I felt it was too negative.  So here is a kinder, gentler, version.

Thank you Steve Dickey, for jumping on the detention site and posting a quick update.  Although Im not detention,
I appreciate the time you took, and am sure that most of your members appreciate it too.

That being said, I simply wish that someone, anyone, from the LEO chapter side would post something.   At this point
I dont care if its the President, Vice President, secretary or board member.  Hell, Id appreciate the janitor posting something.

This forum has been back up for 15 days.  There have been 3 posts, and yet 126 views.  That tells me that people are here, looking,
waiting, hoping for something - anything from our representatives.  I understand you all have lives, families, other important matters.
But at this time, with so much misinformation floating around, so much negativity, so many other agendas being put forth, it would be
settling to simply hear SOMETHING from you.  A post on December 7 said that there had just been a meeting and information was
being put together to bring us up to date.  Nothing.  It is getting frustrating.

"Build it and they will come".  We are here Mike.  You and your board must communicate with us.  If you continue not doing that, our
unity will fracture.  It doesnt take much time, but the benefits are enormous.

I have to agree this site should be used to inform its members. How can we grip about the sheriff office not letting the pba to use our mailbox's when this site is available and it is not used. These times are tight with our money and if the pba isn't going to keep me informed I might have to stop using my money for membership.

Someone from the pba board please respond to these two individuals who have a legitimate beef about not being informed. The fact is there is information to provide and this website needs to be used. Ive asked a couple of the board members to start using it no matter how small the information is. We are paying for it and it should be a tool that is used. When is the arbitration meeting going to occur. What is the status of the decertification vote. The signatures for the vote, where they verified. Guys and Gals are begging for information and it is your duty to at least answer them on this site.

The decertification petition had approsimatley 360 signatures on it.  Many of the Deputies that signed it are union supporters that signed it under pressure from supervisors.  The Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) will not allow the PBA to examine the petition because it is confidential.  If an individual Deputy thinks his name was wrongfully put on the petition he can challenge this with PERC and several inquiries are being made.
We are told by PERC that the vote will take place in late January but we do not have an exact date yet.
PERC will not set a date for the impasse hearing until after the vote is completed.
We are confident that the PBA will prevail in the election and we look forward to putting this behind us.
We apologize for the lack of information.  More will be coming very soon.

Thank you, its about getting the info to the troops who are voting on the union to stay. There are a lot of frustrated troops in the ranks for the lack of info going out. I realize that things are at a stand still but it would be nice if the board took the time to let people know that its still in a holding pattern. This is the first Ive heard that the vote might be in January.

I agree Even with very little going on the sheriff is sending out memos. With the latest one about why the pba is no good for the office with more to come. We need to be informed.

Thanks to PBA and Jeff Samberg for posting.  Youre right, jameswoods and HCSODep, any communication is appreciated and hopefully the information will begin flowing.

And about your memo comment, HCSODep, you hit the nail on the head.  Prior to the union, it seemed like I rarely heard from, or read memos from, the Sheriff, other than SOPs, administrative orders, etc.  Now I see/hear TV, radio, editorials, memos everywhere I turn.  I hear about group lunches, see DVD presentations, pay scales - all generated from staff about our raises, cost of living, staff levels, insurance, improvements, and why we dont need the union.  Funny how they are so interested in us knowing now....

Keep the communication going guys.  Many of us thank you for it.
